In Garnet Valley, not many people know about the life of marching band students. Well, they have all been working hard since the beginning of the summer to prepare a competitive show for their many competitions this band season. Their second competition, the Garnet Valley High School Marching band will compete their show “Western Side Story” on Saturday, October 16, 2021, at Unionville High School.

This past weekend they took their show on the road to the Penncrest Festival of the Bands, a wonderful event for marching bands all over Delco as well as Northern Delaware. It featured a drumline battle as well as performances by many high school marching bands such as Brandywine High school, Springfield High School, and many more.

Drum Majors Lizzy Qian, Jared Park, and Grace Lyons led the band in taking audience members to the wild west and exploring the untamed and exciting wild west. The first song, The Town, takes its listeners to a town that is just waking up. A fun “yeehaw” from the band kicks off movement and takes us into the hustle and bustle of daily life in a western town. The Horse Opera features solos by trumpet Sathvik Chadive, trombone Amos Zou, and Mellophone Joey Powers. The color guard spins horse flags to represent the artistic, free, and calm nature of the untouched wilderness. The final movement of the show, The Train Robbery, depicts a chaotic scene at a train station. The color guard plays the role of the robbers during this exhilarating piece effectively finishing out the show with a bang. For the first time in a few years, the show features many props including a set of saloon doors and a train station platform.

The band will also be performing at the Moe as well as at every other GV Football game this season, and would love your support!
