Swim Meet Recap: Garnet Valley vs. Penncrest

Last Wednesday, the Garnet Valley swim team had their first league dual meet against Penncrest. It was an away meet, so the Aquajags took on the Lions at their pool. Both the GV girls and boys accomplished a huge win against Penncrest, and clocked in some fantastic times and even records for this time in the season.

 

200 Freestyle:

On the girl’s side, Noelle DiClemente won the 200 free and broke the first pool record (of five) for the night. Kiera Scudder got a best time, coming in 2nd. Griffin Young, Kenneth Datta, and Doug Gardener went 1-2-3 respectively for the jags, securing a lead for the boy’s team.

 

200 IM

Freshman Catherine Weaverling won the 200IM for the girls easily, breaking another pool record. Aidan Zipf won this event for the boys, getting a best time.

 

50 Freestyle

Anastasia Erley had a great swim in the girls 50 freestyle, coming in 2nd place. Jimmy Greek came in second for the boys, with a season best time.

 

Diving

The GV girl givers swept the field, with Lindsey Chapman, Marissa Register, and Carson Chapman going 1-2-3 respectively. Dan Smith single-handedly took on the Penncrest boys divers, and gave his best effort.

 

100 Butterfly

Lucy Townend easily won the girls 100 butterfly. On the boy’s side, Jimmy Greek won the event for the Jags with another season best.

 

100 Freestyle

Noelle DiClemente and Anastasia Erley touched 2nd and 3rd respectively in the girls 100 freestyle, clocking in great early season times. On the boy’s side, Shane Scudder, Kenneth Datta, and Andrew Li went 2-3-4 respectively, scoring a lot of points for the jags.

 

500 Freestyle

Amy Townend won the girls 500 freestyle, breaking the third pool record of the night for the jags. Alexa Hipp came in second to secure more points for GV. Griffin Young had a great swim, winning the event for the boys.

 

100 Backstroke

Catherine Weaverling won the girls 100 backstroke and broke another pool record. Shane Scudder won the event on the boy’s side for Garnet Valley.

 

100 Breaststroke

Amy Townend gave it her all in the 100 breaststroke to finish 2nd for the jags on the girl’s side. For the boys, Aidan Zipf won the event and even tied the Garnet Valley team record. As a freshman, Matt Hurford also had a great swim, touching 2nd for the jags.

 

In the end, the GV girls won 102-82 over Penncrest, and the boys scored 100-85 to finish off the night. This dual meet was a great night for the GV swim team, and we are all excited to see where this season takes us!
