Outside hitter Marypearl Tienabeso gives us insight into the upcoming volleyball state tournament. Last year, varsity finished with a 9-1 record and a central league title. The junior tells us what the team needs to do to make sure the jags bring one home. “The team needs to be focusing on the first touch” in volleyball terminology it means to “pass to the setter in serve-receive, and knowing where the hitters are and our overall defense.”

Girls’ volleyball has not made states since their 2016 state championship run. The 2021 squad is looking to change that and end the 5-year drought. During the second round of district playoffs, the girls fell to Downingtown East in a 3-1 match, but the girls did not let that break their spirit, they entered playbacks and won after a hard-fought match against Boyertown, securing a bid in states.

Tienabeso’s 22 kills led the Jags to victory over Boyertown and is looking to lead the team to victory again when they play against Carroll in the first round of the state tournament.
