Winter Sports Recap

The winter season has gotten off to a very exciting start for the sports teams, and this has been a very fun time of year for Garnet Valley sports fans to watch their teams compete in their sports. These sports include Girls and Boys Basketball, Boys Wrestling, Girls and Boys Swim and Dive, Girls and Boys Indoor Track Team, and Girls Cheerleading.

The Boys basketball team is off to a great start at 9-3 and currently have a record of 4-2 in the Central League. They are currently 4th place in the Central League behind and ranked 7th overall in District One. Additionally, the team is averaging 61.08 points per game and allowing 52.92 points per game.

The Girls Basketball team is off to a fantastic start, as they are undefeated at 11-0 overall and are 5-0 in the Central League. They are currently in first place in the Central League Standings. This team also averages 59.27 points per game and allows 31 points per game.

The boys wrestling team is doing very well with a 10-2 record and a 4-0 record in Central League play. They recently got a big win over Upper Darby, the winner of the match has been the winner of the Central League for the past six years. Right now, they are tied for first place in the Central League with Penncrest.

The Girls Swim and Dive team is off to a great start at 5-1 overall. They are currently in 3rd place in the Central League behind Lower Merion and Conestoga. The Girls Swim and DIve team is coming off a season where they won the Central League. At the moment, they are in a tight race for first place in the Central League.

The Boys Swim and Dive Team is undefeated at 5-0 and are in first place in the Central League. They just got a big win over Lower Merion on January 10, winning by a final score of 97-74.  

Girls Cheerleading is once again having a really good year as they have won the District One Championship. They have won the District One Championship for two straight years now. Also, for the first time in Garnet Valley history, the CHeerleading team won first place in the PIAA State Championship and were highlighted on television for their big victory. At this point, the team will move on and compete at Nationals in Walt Disney World.

The Girls Track team is having a great season so far. On Friday, they had an indoor track competition, and their 4×400 relay team came in 3rd place and set the Garnet Valley season best time as well at 4:14.38. Also, Grace Zambrowski set the team records this year for the 300 meter and the 400 meter races.

With the boys track team, they are having a great season as well. The DMR relay team set a new team record at the Ocean Breeze Holiday with a time of 11:11.18. Also, Sean Garrett set a new record team record for the two mile race at the Ocean Holiday Breeze.
