For anyone who has seen the HiQ team in action this season and dreams of joining us on stage next season, tryouts will be held at the beginning of October and study materials will be distributed at an enhancement meeting on Friday, June 2nd, a D-day. To maximize your likelihood of obtaining a spot on the team next year, attend the meeting on June 2nd to pick up textbooks and the readings that will be assessed at tryouts. These readings consist of a Shakespeare play, five short stories, and readings in United States history, geography, art history, sports, and United States government to be studied by all prospective members over the summer. In October, knowledge of these materials and in the additional subjects math, chemistry, physics, and current events will be assessed by two round of tryouts, one written test and one set of buzzer rounds. The ten highest-scoring students will be awarded spots on the team with no preference given to returning team members or on the basis of seniority. Demonstrated mastery of this same material will be used to determine next year’s stage lineup in the weeks following tryouts, so if you have plans to establish yourself as MVP of next year’s team, make your way down to Dr. Arensberg’s room, C118, next Friday and hit the books!
