On Saturday, December 9th at the Wilmington Drama League, co-producers of the Broadway production Legally Blonde, Laurence O’Keefe and Nell Benjamin, are hosting a $10 workshop entailing a series of performances and a Q & A; the performances are works and pieces that they have written in the past. The workshop itself is held from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm, and while this early workshop costs money, the actual performance, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, is completely free and open to the public. Either way, attending the workshop will be a great experience for various people who passionately enjoy drama and are interested in the Dramatists Guild Foundation’s Traveling Masters program.
There are numerous other auditions and performances taking place during this holiday time of year. From December 15th to the 30th, Broadway is putting on the show A Christmas Carol, starring various well known actors and actresses. The director of the musical is Jeffrey Santoro, the choreographer is Shauna Goodman, and the music director is Jake Collins, all of which significantly contribute to the formulation of this amazing show. This musical is almost entirely complete, so please indulge in the experience!
In addition, two auditions, one for Doll’s House and one for Choir Boy, will be held in December as well, the former occurring from December 5th to the 7th and the latter from December 4th to the 13th. A Doll’s House festival requires people of all ethnicities, and the ages must vary from late teenager to adult; there are from 4-6 plays that comprise the festival, and the champion play will go on to compete at state and national levels. For Choir Boy, Director Mikal K. Odom would like to have five black male actors and/or singers to play high school students, one black male actor to play the headmaster, and one white male actor to be the professor. The show primarily focuses on an instance where a school choir and its leader are blatantly accused of being gay and feminine. These upcoming auditions are great opportunities for students and adults who want to become more involved in the theater as singers, actors, or even a combination of both.
