Garnet Valley High School held its annual homecoming dance this year on October 18th. Between the themed spirit days, the big game, and the much-anticipated dance, the students had a lot to say!

Kali Brewer (Sophomore):

Homecoming was a blast! I had so much fun this year! I danced with my friends, sang a lot, and we bonded a lot! I invited my 2 friends over to get ready at my place, which was a bunch of fun!! Then we made videos and we revealed our dresses! We had so much fun doing our hair and talking to each other before taking pictures outside. We took so many cute pictures together, and it was such a magical experience. I felt like royalty! We arrived at Hoco in fashion, and we went straight to the gym to dance! We jammed out for a bit before getting a bite to eat. We had some food, took more pictures, and went back to the dance floor. I think the majority of our time was spent there lol! We ended our night with sore feet from our heels, and brand new memories from homecoming!!!

Rebecca King (Sophomore):

I thought homecoming was really good. The DJ had some pretty good music, but it was just REALLY loud in the gym. You could barely hear anything, and it kind of hurt my ears. Yes, music has to be loud, but not by that much. I think there should have been more communication, especially regarding the food. I had no idea what was going to be there before, and I went and ordered pizza, and then they had pizza there.

Sam Fedele (Sophomore):

I went to homecoming this year as a sophomore and the year prior as a freshman. I personally had lots of fun, but I have heard others disagree with this. I feel personally that some ways it could improve is the amount of beverages and food served. I find every year that there’s either not enough or barely enough for everyone attending the event, especially since it went up by $10 this year. I feel that about half of our money for the ticket should go toward food for that person. Otherwise, I feel as long as you’re interactive with others and dance in the gym, it’s really enjoyable.

Hannah Wozniak (Sophomore):

I thought Hoco was great! I liked that there were different drinks and such this year, and the food was good! I had lots of fun dancing with my friends and getting to see everyone in their dresses!

Luna Good (Sophomore):

I had lots of fun this year. The music was better. It was a little more crowded, I believe that was because last year all three gyms were open, but this year only one was. It was a good experience; it was definitely more chill last year. All the staff seemed stressed. I don’t know if that has anything to do with the closing of the other two gyms, but I would say my overall experience at Hoco was an 8.5/10.

Emily Senkowsky (Sophomore):

Overall, I really enjoyed homecoming this year. I thought it was a more fun experience than freshman year Hoco. I think that is due to people wanting to be there and wanting to have more fun than last year. I don’t think there is much that can be improved upon because it was a really fun experience. I think that homecoming is such a special thing to attend, and I am really glad I got to enjoy it with my friends this year!

Me - Sophie Davar (Sophomore):

I thought Hoco this year was pretty good! I loved seeing everyone dressed up and getting dolled up and taking pictures with my friends. I do wish that there were more options for food and more beverages. Or if the staff could specify beforehand what they will be handing out at Hoco. I had pizza before I left and wasn’t sure what we were having there. I also think there should be more to do than just dance, sit, eat, and talk. The gym was constantly hot with so many people dancing. But overall, it was a fun experience!

Ella Kegley (Sophomore):

I enjoyed how much space we had to hang out like beside the gym.

Ashley Lamb (Junior):

Hoco was good! I liked dressing up and spending time with friends, but it could use more decorations and better food.

Emery Werner (Freshman):

I didn’t like Hoco. 🫠
