Homecoming is fast approaching here at Garnet Valley. You may be wondering, “What do people wear?” “What is there to do?”, etc. All you need to know is in this article!

For girls, the typical dress is cocktail style. Dresses range from sparkly to silky, tight to flowy, and in lots of different colors. Some have flowers as well, but it’s okay if you don’t! Girls typically wear high heels or flats. Recently, however, sneakers have become popular, as it allows for comfort while dancing! For boys, however, you will usually see long-sleeved button-up shirts, accompanied by a tie or bow tie. Pants for boys are typically dressy khakis or dress pants. As for shoes, dress shoes or nicer sneakers are common.

The week leading up to the dance is filled with fun spirit days. Whichever grade has the most participants each day, will win for that day. Eventually, the points are rounded up, and there is a winner at the end of the week. On the fun-filled Friday before the dance, October 25th this year, the day starts with a pep rally. At the event, the homecoming court will introduce themselves with a fun dance. Games are played, and people from each grade are selected to participate. The grade winners for best homecoming banner representing their float and most participation in spirit days are also announced here as well. Later in the evening, the homecoming parade takes place. Grade floats, homecoming court, marching band, and others will parade around the school, showing off their floats and skits that go with this. After the parade, the game takes place. At halftime, cheer and dance teams will perform. Here, the Homecoming Queen winner is announced. At the very end of the night, fireworks conclude the day.

Before the dance, people will get together with friends and take pictures. Some people go with a date, but others go with friends. Both are great and fun options! The dance starts at 6:30 and lasts until 9:30. At the dance, music will be playing, so you can dance with friends and sing along to your favorite songs! There will also be food and some beverages. Toward the end of the night, the Homecoming King is announced. Please be smart and safe about where you go and what you do after homecoming!

If all this sounds fun, buy a ticket for the dance! “How can I buy a ticket?” you may ask. During all lunches, in the small gym, you can purchase a ticket for $30. If you're a Senior, you can get your ticket on October 7th and 8th. Juniors on October 9th and 10th. Sophomores on October 11th and 15th. And Freshmen on October 16th and 17th.
