The Lady Jags lacrosse season comes to a heartbreaking close with a 7-4 loss to the defending state champions in the second round of the PIAA District I 3A playoffs in a win-or -go home situation.

By halftime, Conestoga was up 5-0, but within minutes into the second half, there was a go-ahead goal by GV attacker Mia Raucci to get the Jags offensive momentum going, making the score 5-1. Raucci later scored on a free position, tallying two goals for the day. GV midfielder Jenny Green and GV attacker Maddie Shoemaker tallied one goal each, making the score 6-4.

Defensively, the Jags kept Conestoga’s offense cornered with the Pioneers only scoring seven goals, despite their season average of goals in a game being in the double digits. GV Goalie Kate Sharp had a total of 11 saves, an incredible performance by the Drexel commit that limited Conestoga’s stellar, explosive offense.

Despite Raucci’s momentum shift and an electric start to the second half, a comeback could not be completed in time to upset the 3rd-seeded Lady Pioneers. Conestoga midfielder Kate Galicia ultimately sealed the game when she added her second goal of the day, making the score 7-4.

Along with Galica’s contribution, Conestoga’s goalie Alex Lepore had a total of 9 saves which narrowed the Jags offensive opportunities late in the second half. The 12-6-1 Jags were ranked 14th going into the District I Playoffs and defeated 19th-ranked Henderson 23- 6 in the opening round.

They finish their season 12-7-1. We wish their seniors the best of luck with all their future endeavors.
