Intro:
The Round of 16 has concluded and now only 8 teams remain, all trying to get to the final in Istanbul. Let’s take a look ahead to the UEFA Champions League Quarter Finals.
Benfica vs Inter Milan:
Benfica is coming off their 7-1 (on aggregate) drubbing of Club Brugge, compared to a much less dominant job done by Inter, who barely edged past Porto by a single goal. Benfica should be favored in this match, even if they are not a traditional powerhouse in Europe. Prediction: Benfica breeze past Inter to advance to the semis.
Real Madrid vs Chelsea:
Real Madrid is the most decorated team in the history of the Champions League, with 14 titles to their name, they always are the favorites. They breezed past Liverpool in Ro16, and now we have a rematch of last year’s quarter-finals. Graham Potter led Chelsea’s advance against Dortmund. Chelsea may be in the quarter-finals of the UCL, but if you compare their domestic results, it’s a wildly different story, as they are in 10th place. If you take a look at the results of the previous match-up that occurred last year, Real Madrid somehow made it through in extra time. I wish I could side with Chelsea in this one (as I am an FC Barcelona fan), but it seems unlikely that Graham Potter will lead his team to victory. Prediction: Real Madrid win over Chelsea, but lose in the semis
AC Milan vs Napoli:
We have an all-Italian affair in this one. Napoli is high flying, in the Serie A, they currently are ahead of second place by 18 points. Napoli decisively defeated Frankfurt, 5-0 on aggregate. The same can not be said about AC Milan, who just about got it done against Tottenham, by a margin of one. Napoli has just been dominant all season, they really should be one of the favorites this season to win it all. Prediction: Napoli triumph over AC Milan
Manchester City vs Bayern Munich:
Now what many would say is the marquee match-up in this slate of games, City vs Bayern. Manchester City is fresh off a destructive win over RB Lepzig, in which Haaland scored 5 goals! Bayern is coming off a great win over PSG, where they won 3-0 on aggregate. Now this one could really go either way, but I feel like I have to give a slight edge to Manchester City, simply because of that 5 goal Haaland performance. Prediction: Manchester barely edge through to the semis
