It couldn’t have been a better, more accomplished year for the Garnet Valley Girls cheerleading team. First, taking first place in the Central League, taking home a district championship title, and now a state championship trophy. The sweep proves their dominance all around.
The PIAA Competitive Spirit State Championship competition took place on Saturday, January 28th, in Hershey, PA.
In the preliminaries, Garnet Valley finished 4th in the 3A Small Varsity Division with a total score of 86.5333 and four deductions total, enough to advance straight to the finals.
During the finals, Cumberland Valley High School placed third with a total score of 91.7667 and two deductions. After that, Garnet Valley had their golden moment when they placed first over second place South Fayette High School, who had a total score of 94.3667 and zero deductions.
The Jags ended with a grand total of 94.5667 and zero deductions, winning by 200 points and taking home gold and the state title trophy.
When they returned home, they were met with endless celebrations for their well-accomplished season that is not quite over yet; they will travel to nationals down the road to compete against some of the best high school teams in the country.
Congratulations girls!
