Garnet Valley High School’s Youth and Government chapter was fortunate enough to be able to attend Springfield High School’s Eastern Pennsylvania Elections Convention.

Youth and Government is a national organization founded by Clement A. Durant in 1936 as a YMCA subprogram. Within the program, youth from 49 states and Washington, D.C. emulate realistic federal practices and policies in order to learn about and experience government methodologies.

Youth involved in YAG have a passion for creating change, as is evidenced by all members in attendance at EC last Saturday, November 19th.

Students from schools and YMCA organizations across eastern Pennsylvania met in order to elect leaders of cabinets and committees for Model, a conference in spring 2023 where YAG delegates will represent members of Congress and the Supreme Court in order to increase their involvement in and knowledge of government activities.

GV’s own Riley Stoddard (Class of 2023) is PA YAG’s Youth Governor for the 2022-2023 cycle. Among her many accomplishments within YAG, Stoddard has also had the opportunity to meet with and interview local political leaders such as Josh Shapiro on youth involvement in politics and steps currently being taken for a more progressive future.

Garnet Valley’s YAG chapter was honored to be in attendance at Elections Convention and looks forward to a successful 2022-2023 cycle.
