If you’re looking to join a club this year, it’s still not too late to join Letters for Rose! Letters for Rose aims to reduce loneliness among elders during the COVID-19 pandemic by creating and distributing personalized letters, art, and donations to local nursing homes. Founded and staffed exclusively by high school student volunteers, with over 400 chapters across the world, Letters for Rose creates community service, team-building, and leadership opportunities for its volunteers. In the past 1.5 years, GVHS’s LFR program has delivered over 1,000 letters/art to 8 local facilities. Chapter head of the club, Sanya Singh, says that “The most rewarding part of volunteering with LFR is hearing back from the senior citizens and seeing how your small act of kindness makes their day. We always get emails from the nursing home staff about how much the residents love receiving our messages, and sometimes they even write back! It is super fun to write letters and make crafts with friends during club meetings.”
