As most of us know, there are a variety of clubs that you can choose to join here at GVHS. If you are interested in getting involved at the school, Amnesty International was just started! Amnesty is an international organization with more than seven million people in over 150 countries and territories. The GVHS Amnesty club is officially registered with this organization, and they are excited to get involved with the operation!
If you are unaware of what Amnesty International is, it’s an organization that fights to end the abuses of human rights, and it focuses on things like gun violence, refugees and more. The club at the high school will hold discussions, fundraisers, and help spread awareness about these topics. If you are looking for more ways to get community involvement, then definitely try this club out! You can also earn community service hours as well, if that is something you are looking for.
One of the co-presidents of the club, Shreya Bose, says that “Amnesty international is a worldwide organization dedicated to ending the abuses of human rights. The GVHS club will spread awareness of human rights issues, and donate to Amnesty. It’s an easy way to get involved and bring students together for a good cause!”
Another co-president of the club, Eliana Byun, says that “Amnesty is an international organization that is pushing to end abuses of human rights. Upon joining, you are contributing to an important cause that fights for rights that many individuals all around the world are stripped of. Just coming to spectate a meeting can significantly benefit the Amnesty organization! So come join for food, fun, and most importantly, advocacy for a greater cause!”
The club plans to meet every other Thursday in room B136, and they encourage anyone that is interested, to join in on the fun!
Make sure to contact officers shreyabose@garnetvalley.org and elianabyun@garnetvalley.org for any questions you may have. The club also has a remind, which you can join with the class code gv-amnesty, to receive any updates on new information. Let’s all welcome another change making club here at GVHS!
