Garnet Valley High School Student Council has been continuously praised for its skills in leadership, teamwork, and service. Our Student Council’s determination to improve our school and our community has been rewarded with the National Gold Council of Excellence Award from the National Student Council for the eighth year. This year, Student Council has been working with our new advisors Miss Brady and Mrs. Kaman-Mellus. Miss Brady is a social studies teacher at our school and Mrs. Kamann-Mellus is an English teacher. They both are very kind and accepting people who have been doing an amazing job in these positions and are extremely positive influences on the council. In addition, I have had the pleasure of speaking to our current Student Council president, Lindsay Salladino. Lindsay was the Sub-Treasurer last year and was the only officer who wasn’t a senior. Lindsay Salladino is extremely intelligent, kind, and hard-working and has done amazing things for the council for the three years she has been a part of it. Below you will find more information about our Student Council as well as our wonderful president.
More About Lindsay:
Hi! My name is Lindsay Salladino and I am currently a Junior. Some of the things that I am really passionate about include volunteering and helping others which is why I love being a part of clubs such as Student Council, Mini-THON, and Interact which allow me to give back to the community and plan events for the student body!
What events have taken place recently?
Student Council was still very active in the summer while we hosted our car wash for the GV community. We also held New Student Orientation before the year began to help adjust the new students in the district to GVHS before their first day! In addition, the council participated in touring at Freshman Orientation and facilitated the creation of the Virtual Club Fair Slideshow for students to utilize as a resource all year long.
What events do you most enjoy doing or are most excited about?
MORP is always an extremely fun event for the students no matter the adaptation of the event. It is one of my favorite events to plan and participate in because there are so many different ways to be creative with the decorations and execution! The Charity Drive is also one that I am really excited about this year because it is one of the biggest charity events for our school and the competition between teachers to collect canned goods makes it exciting for everyone!
Are there any new events this year?
Student Council is always trying to generate new event ideas each year for the student body and GV community! Since Halloween happens to fall on a Monday this year, we have decided to host a Learn event in the Auditorium to encourage the Halloween spirit! We are really excited for this event and for students to stop by the Auditorium during lunch and learn to play games, get some candy, and enjoy the music and decorations! We also plan to host Club Wars, an event idea generated last year, that we are really hoping to see executed in the spring!
What are some upcoming events?
Right now, the council is focused on Homecoming and generating themes for Homecoming Spirit Week! In October we will be hosting the Halloween Learn event and sending out our New Member Applications. Our Charity Drive/Canned Food drive is also approaching, taking place in November, which is one of our biggest charity events of the year!
