There are many clubs available at the high school which offer great opportunities for getting involved. GVHS offers over 55 clubs, but the one discussed in this article is Girl Up. Girl Up is a group of diverse students who desire to make change and promote the welfare of women and girls in our community. President of the club, Rathna Reddy, says that “Girl Up Club strives to empower women and girls. We host discussions about current events regarding women, collaborate with clubs such as Asian Culture Club, have events for Women’s History Month, provide free menstrual products in the bathrooms, and more!” Charlotte Wu, secretary of Girl Up, says, “Girl Up is a safe space for anyone to express their feelings and needs on gender equality as well as preach feminism.”
Ever wonder why the girls’ bathrooms all have baskets with feminine hygiene products? That was Girl Up! If you want to participate in more change like that, it is never too late to join the club and make a real difference at the school!
