As the Garnet Valley girls soccer team walked off Moe DeFrank Stadium victorious over Upper Darby, senior midfielder Mia Zebley reflected on what had worked for the Jags.
“We’ve been doing a lot more communicating to figure out what we all need to work on, and I think today was a good example of that, working on things we needed to work on, and we got a positive result out of it.”
That positive result was a 10-0 cruising victory over the Royals on senior night. The seniors honored were Mia Zebley, Lana Ung, Anna Goldkamp, and Michelle Dragoni.
Although it was senior night, nine of the 10 total goals scored were by underclassmen, the only exception being senior Michelle Dragoni.
Sophomore Maddie Smith scored two quick goals in the first 10 minutes and then another in the second half to complete the hat trick.
Sophomores Sydney Strulson, Ella Bryan, Lauren Ricevuto, and Kylie Mulholland also contributed in scoring.
“They’re doing an amazing job”, Zebley said about the young sophomore group, “especially this year they’ve shown a lot more effort and hard work, they’re not scared to play, even if it’s against some 6-foot girl on the other team they’re giving it their all out there, they’re in such a great position for when we [the seniors] leave.”
The Garnet Valley defense was on lockdown, with Upper Darby totaling one total shot on goal.
The Jags will look to continue off of Thursday’s success for the rest of the season.
