Taylor Swift, one of the best-selling musicians of all time is coming out with yet another album. On Aug. 28th at the VMAs Swift announced her 10th album Midnights. During her acceptance speech she said, “I had made up my mind that if you were going to be this generous and give us this, I thought it would be a fun moment to tell you that my brand new album comes out on Oct. 21,” and promised to share more at midnight on her website https://www.taylorswift.com/. Swift then posted via Instagram describing the album as “the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life,” then went on to describe the songs as a “collection of music written in the middle of the night, a journey through terrors and sweet dreams. The floors we pace and the demons we face.” This is Swift’s first new album in two years while re-recording her old albums and recently came out with a single “Carolina”.
Midnights will have 13 songs, but the track list is not complete. Swift did not yet announce the names of the songs but revealed that they will be divided into two sections. Now there were actually easter eggs all along. Swift has mentioned the word “Midnight” in several of her songs. There was a popular audio on TikTok sharing all the times Swift had said midnight in her previous songs. 22: “it feels like a perfect night/for breakfast at midnight,” Style: “Midnight, you come and pick me up, no headlights,” You Are In Love: “Small talk, he drives, coffee at midnight”, New Year’s Day: “I want your midnights, but I’ll be cleaning up bottles with you on New Year’s Day”, The Last Great American Dynasty: “They say she was seen on occasion pacing the rocks, staring out at the midnight sea” and Happiness: “In our history, across our great divide, there is a glorious sunrise dappled with the flickers of light from the dress I wore at midnight”.
Swift once said that sometimes she plans her albums three years in advance. In “Lover” her album that was three years ago her last song Daylight said at the end, “The things that haunt me in the middle of the night” and now there is midnights which is an album about the things that haunt her in the middle of the night. Do you think this is a coincidence or not?
Fans are so thrilled about her album and cannot wait. Some fans even plan on having a Midnights listening party and staying up all night. Overall this will be another one of Taylor Swift’s big successes.
