Girls softball took down 12th seed Downingtown East in a 3-2 win to secure a bid to the PIAA State Tournament after missing out on last year’s state tournament. The girls entered playbacks after a harsh 8-0 loss to a first seed, Pensbury, but the Lady Jags were able to turn things around with a close, hard fought win.

The Jags lead early in the third inning but East was able to tie the game up 1-1 in the top of the fourth, but the Jags took the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning to shut down Easts’ opportunity to advance in the playoffs.

Offensively, Emily Orsini and Zoey Rogers both tallied one hit, Rogers singled on a bunt to the first baseman, then Orsini singled on a fly ball to right field. Fulmer hit a pop fly and reached on an error by the first baseman. Zoe Rogers scored, and Emily Orsini advanced to third. Defensively, pitcher Anna Sidlowski had five strikeouts and only allowed two hits, two runs and three walks on the day.

The Jags will face Quakertown on Thursday to take 5th or 6th place in the District Tournament. Quakertown advanced to the state tournament after a 2-0 shutout against Hatboro-Horsham in a district playback game. The game will be played at Quakertown High school.
