On Monday, March 21, Garnet Valley High School celebrated World Down Syndrome Day by wearing mismatched, unique, and colorful socks! The Peer Buddies club hosted the Rock Your Socks event, chaired by Abbey Shearon and Sanya Singh including the committee, to show support to our buddies with Down Syndrome (in Garnet Valley and around the world).
Rock Your Socks is celebrated throughout the world on March 21. The date, 3/21, represents people with Down Syndrome, as they have 3 copies of their 21st chromosome. The concept of ‘socks’ is derived from the anatomical shape – the karyotype of Ds chromosomes looks like mismatched socks. The global event advocates for the rights, inclusion, and well-being of people with Down Syndrome.
Remember to ‘Rock Your Socks’ every March 21st to support our buddies with Down Syndrome!
