Girls volleyball suffered a heartbreaking 2-3 loss in the state quarterfinal against Shanahan.
Despite being 2-0 early on, Shanahan’s comeback could not be stopped. The Jaguars could have sealed the deal in a close, fought fourth set, but outside hitter Coco Shultz tied it at 24-24 with a kill. In the fifth set, the jaguars
Garnet Valley battled for the lead when Klaria Zakarian had a kill that put the jags 7-2 and put Shanahan in a deficit. Unfortunately, this was not enough for the Jaguars as the Eagles won 15-10 after Maddie Metcalf’s ace.
This season for girls volleyball is one for the books. Before Saturday, 5 girls were given all-central league honors. 1st team- Kelly St. Germain, Marypearl Tienabeso, and Maddie Wood
Honorable Mention- Katelyn Dugery and Sarah Weins. The fierce atmosphere these girls created on the court have made them beat multiple volleyball powerhouses like Shanahan earlier in the regular season, Lower Merion and Villa Maria Academy, proving that the competitive spirit with these girls is unmatched.
Despite a gut-wrenching loss from a very close game, The Central League champs know their future is bright. With 10 current juniors, all plan on returning their senior year, and know what it takes to bring one home. Outsider hitter Marypearl Tienabeso tells us “We have a new talented freshman coming in and a big senior team next year, our volleyball IQ will be high, and we will perform potentially even better than we did this season.”
We wish luck to our 4 seniors, Leah Ellis, Rachel Sokalsky, Stephanie May and Kate Dugery, who are leaving us this year and a huge thank you to them. The leadership from them built a huge vision for the team and there is no doubt that the leadership from them will be passed down to the future senior class.
