Friday, September 24, 2021, marks the beginning of the conversation about mental health in Garnet Valley High School. The Mental Health Awareness Club is run by advisor, Mrs. Krech, co-presidents Jillian Fahey and Julia Gambacorta, and vice-president Carly Torrens. During the first meeting, the girls explained their goals with the club, as well as some activities that they would like to introduce throughout the school year. These activities include discussions about the difference between mental health and mental illness, positive affirmation activities, practicing meditation, and even “?? yourself” Valentines in February. They kickstarted the meeting with a gratitude exercise in which participants were asked to write something they are grateful for and share it with the rest of the club. The turnout was incredible and the room was full of eager students. Meetings will continue monthly in D107 during second learn for anyone interested in joining. Everyone is welcome!
