Basketball Update

By: Alec Eskin

It has been a very busy week and a lot has happened. Both the boys and girls basketball teams have had three games each over the last week. It has been a week with some ups and downs for each team. There is about a month left in the regular season for both of these teams. Due to the shortened season, each game means a little bit more than it did last season, but still plenty of time. This should be a very fun last month for high school basketball and winter sports fans. Lets get into it . . .

The boys team has went 1-2 the past week (0-2 in Central League play and 1-0 in non conference play). This team now currently sits at 3-2 overall record. They have beat Haverford but have lost to Strath Haven and Conestoga. Both of those programs have started to become very good in recent years. Carl Schaller has led the way in points and assists. He is making a very good case to be Central League MVP this year once again. Gannon McKee and Justin Langan have both found their strokes from beyond the arc and have been a big part of that offense. Their next game is against Upper Darby at home tomorrow.

The girls basketball team has also had a 1-2 record over this past week. But, they are 1-1 in Central League play and 0-1 in non conference play this past week. The girls lost to Haverford in non conference play and have beaten Conestoga and lost to Strath Haven in Central League play. Jess Brewer has shown a large improvement in her mid-range jumper which has come in handy for them. Also, Mary Rose Berry has been the Jaguars best three point shooter thus far as she is going to St. Joe’s to play field hockey. Their next game is away at Upper Darby tomorrow.

Overall, this has been a season that has been tough to weather with the pandemic as well as school and PSATs and SATs that are taking place around this time. There is a lot of time in the season left and both teams will provide a lot of hard competition for their opponents.
