Lucas Torregrossa is a senior at Garnet Valley High School. He works at Smoothie King with a few of his friends. He plans on attending American University in the fall to study public relations and strategic communication. He enjoys spending time with friends and family, as well as the occasional alone time.

  1. Long Drives in Nature

I live right on the edge of the PA-DE border in front of a farm, and if I ever get bored or need a break from society, I can go for a nice 20 minute drive into rural Delaware. It is one of my greatest stress relievers because it takes my mind off of whatever I am doing and allows me to be at peace with myself and my surroundings.

  1. Pecan Pie

I am a hugeeeee fan of dessert; there is no other way to put it. Pecan pie is a favorite of mine because it has a nice caramel taste and I’m the only one in my family that likes it, meaning I usually get my own pie on the holidays.

  1. Smoothie King

Smoothie King is where I work and holds great value to me. I have made many great friends here and it has been the greatest first job experience.

  1. Pickleball

Although pickleball is a sport notoriously for the elders, I can’t think of a game that has been half as fun for me. Everytime I play I meet someone new and you never really know who you will play with. This random, diverse group of people never fails to make me smile.

  1. My Dog: Penelope

My dog Penelope (or Pip for short) is always a highlight of my school day. Every morning when my dad leaves for work, she gets up and jumps into my bed where she proceeds to sleep for the next four hours, comforting me and keeping me warm. She never seems comfortable though, because she insists on readjusting herself and stepping on me every thirty minutes or so.

  1. Spotify

I love listening to music. Unlike your average teenager, I listen to a variety of music consisting of whatever I want, whenever I want it. Being able to make playlists consisting of Hall and Oates, the top hits of 2009, as well as new J. Cole music is more than deserving of being a favorite of mine.

  1. Apple

Although I used to despise Apple, being able to integrate all of my devices has brought great convenience and organization to my life. Owning an Apple watch, Iphone, Macbook, and an Ipad has allowed me to always have a device, no matter where I am or what I’m doing, with a small price tag of around $4,000. This “small price tag” is my only complaint with Apple, but I know this much convenience comes with a price.

  1. My Friends

It should be no surprise that I am a sporadic, high-energy individual. Because of this, I require a group of people with similar attributes to take part in adventures when appropriate, and prevent me from doing anything too crazy when it’s possible. I have no doubt my friends have improved my high school experience and I cannot imagine spending most of my weekends with anyone else.

  1. Coupons

I consider myself an impulsive spender, but I always look for the best deals. Coupons allow me to justify my unusual spending habits and help me get the most bang for my buck. For example, It can be hard to truly consider spending $15 on getting a chipotle burrito bowl delivered, but once you add the free delivery and the price goes down a mere buck or two, I feel a lot better.

  1. (Most) People

I pride myself in my sociability and my ability to make friends wherever I go. I really didn’t start appreciating this trait until the coronavirus swept through, though, because not being able to be face-to-face with friends or my peers in school has greatly affected me. Looking forward, I hope to have a “rebirth” of this ability when I’m at college, because it will be a new start for me.
