Thank you so much for the opportunity and this recognition. Over the past couple years at GVHS, I have really grown as a person and a leader at heart. Since Freshman Year, I’ve been honored with various leadership positions, I’ve been able to grow my leadership skills with events and programs held all over, and I’ve been able to establish strong and great networking throughout the community.
In regard to my presence within the school, I’ve had many opportunities to exhibit service and leadership. Not only was I the Sophomore Class Vice President, but I was also (and still am) involved with the Drama Club, Student Council, Interact, Mini-THON, and H.E.R.E. With all of these extracurriculars, I like to think that I have been pretty successful in managing my time, especially while balancing my several AP and Honors Classes. With respect to community service, I especially use the opportunities offered by the Student Council and Interact to try and give back to the community. This year, I have many school responsibilities including being the Drama Club communications Co-director, Mini-THON Communications Co-Chair, and representing the school at future State and National Student Council programs.
I believe that GVHS has allowed me to “spread my wings” and spread my influence outside of the local community. I represent the 5 local counties (known as Region J) as the Region J Representative on the Pennsylvania Association of Student Councils’ Executive Board. Being on the board, I have attended and presented at leadership trainings, state conferences, regional conferences, and national conferences. Additionally, I have established leadership skills and completed service on an educational mission trip to Peru making water accessible to villages in poverty, and I will be traveling to Fiji this upcoming Spring Break to complete similar service work. Last year, I earned the Gold Presidential Service Award from completing at least 100 hours of service; I hope to qualify again this year. Overall, I am amazed at how far I’ve come and I credit this to the amazing school district I belong to and the people who have supported me along the way.
