2019 Garnet Valley Football Team

By: Alec Eskin

Football season is officially underway for the Garnet Valley Jaguars. They have just finished up their football camp and are now into their first week of practices as they prepare for their game against the Downingtown West Whippets. This year’s camp was very successful as they head into the regular season. It contains heat acclimation week as well as the overnight sleepover at the school.

Heat acclimation week is to adjust the players to the temperatures that team could be up against during games early in the season. These practices are usually held from 7:00-9:10 in the morning and 7:00-9:10 at night as well for five days. The players go through a series of conditioning and team drills to ready themselves for the their upcoming practices and games. This is very important for the upcoming season so that way the players are in shape and ready to play in the August and September heat.

The sleep over at the school is meant to be a bonding experience and ready themselves more for the upcoming season. There are usually two to three practices a day, one in the morning, one in the afternoon, and one in the evening. This lasted for six days and right after the sleepover was the scrimmage against Downingtown East. There are also team building activities as well. For example, the entire team went to the movie tavern. Also, there are drills that will prepare them for the upcoming season as well.

The Jaguars first game of the season will be at Downingtown West (Kottmeyer Stadium) on Saturday at 7:00 PM. What has happened at football camp should come in handy for the first game of the season as well as the next nine games to. Everyone, including myself can not wait for the season to start and for football to be back. There will be recaps of every game in 2019. Should be a great year once again!
