Winter Sports Update

The winter sports team are currently close to ending their seasons and getting ready for the playoffs. All of the Winter sports are having really good seasons once again. These winter sports teams are the Girls and Boys basketball teams, the Wrestling team, the Girls and Boys Swim and Dive teams, the Girls and Boys Indoor Track teams, and the Cheerleading team. Let’s take a look at what these teams have done. . .

The boys basketball team is currently in 4th place in the Central League and 163rd in Pennsylvania. They are 14-8 overall and 10-6 in the Central League. They are the 15th seed in Districts and are playing Downingtown East at home on Friday after a win on the road against Haverford. They average 60.5 points per game and allow 54.32 points per game.

The girls basketball team is having one of the best regular seasons in their history. They are 19-1 overall and 14-0 in the Central League. They are 1st in the Central League, 1st in the District One rankings, and 6th in the state of Pennsylvania overall. They wrapped up their season winning at Upper Darby, and then playing their final home game against Haverford before the Central League playoffs. They average 58.05 points per game and allow 33.41 points per game.

The wrestling team had just finished up the at the 3A district tournaments. They lost to Owen J. Roberts in close match, then beat Downingtown West on February 1st and then lost to Boyertown on February 2nd.  They are 17-4 on the season and are 1st in the Central League. They just won the Central League Championships and had many wrestlers place for individual weight classes.

The Boys Swim and Dive team are having a great season thus far. They just beat Penncrest 94-87. They are 9-2 and are 3rd in the Central League. They are going to be competing in the Central League Championships February 15th and 16th at Radnor.

The Girls Swim and Dive team is once again having a great season as well. They just beat Penncrest 109-74. They are also 9-2 and are in 3rd place in the Central League as well. They will be competing in the Central League Championships on February 15th and 16th at Radnor also.

The Cheerleading team has had a historically great season so far. The Cheerleading team just competed in Nationals in Florida after they just took 1st at States. They took 7th overall in Nationals. Only a few teams from states get to go each year and Garnet Valley is one of those teams.

The Girls Indoor Track team has been doing really good. Last week, Grace Zambrowski set the Garnet Valley school  record for the 400 meter dash for both indoor and outdoor track. Also, the 4×400 team got 1st place and made it to the Meeting of Champions. They have the Meet of Champions on February 15th and States on February 24th.

The Boys Indoor Track team is having a really good season as well. The DMR team just set a new school record at 10:45.50, the previous record was 10:59.50. Also, Larry Coaxum finished 1st in the triple jump and end in the long jump at the Delco Indoor Track Championships. They have the Meet of Champions on February 16th and States on February 23rd.
