Last Wednesday the GV AquaJags took on Lower Merion in the most-anticipated meet yet this season- and both our girls and boys teams persevered against the Aces. The girls continued their undefeated season with this win, and the boys easily won the meet to boost their league ranks. Overall, it was a close score, stressful until the end. Every coach was tense and nervous, the swimmers lined each side of the pool screaming for their teammates, and it ended up coming down to the final event to decide the meet. It was a very exciting night, filled with fast times and team spirit- definitely one of my favorite memories from this season.
Some highlights of the meet on the girls side include:
-Freshman Catherine Weaverling got a best-time and first place in the 200IM
-Noelle DiClemente, Alexa Hipp, and Elise Scott scored 1-3-5 in the 50 freestlye respectively, scoring a lot of points for the team
-Lucy Townend won the 100 butterfly and Erica Kent placed 4th with a best-time
-Noelle DiClemente and Anastasia Erley took 1st and 2nd in the 100 freestyle respectively
-The girls ‘A’ 200 freestyle relay won the event in record-breaking fashion, and the girls ‘B’ relay of Thallyah Baffic, Kiera Scudder, Erica Kent, and Elise Scott scored a critical 3rd place to score points for the team
-Catherine Weaverling took first in the 100 backstroke, with Alexa Hipp and Lucy Townend taking 3rd and 4th
-Amy Townend took 2nd and Kitty Rossi took a crucial 4th place in the girls 100 breaststroke
-The ‘A’ girls 400 freestyle relay of Anastasia Erley, Noelle DiClemente, Catherine Weaverling, and Amy Townend won the event and broke another record, and our ‘B’ relay scored 3rd to secure a win for the AquaJags.
