The fifth annual Spring Invitational was held at Garnet Valley Middle School on Friday, May 19, 2017, with the help of the Varsity Club, Drama Club, Peer Counselors, and the Get Fit, Get Connected Club. The Spring Invitational is an opportunity for 10 schools to hold a Special Olympics for their students that might not normally have the chance to showcase their athletic skills.

The day starts with opening ceremonies where all the teams hold a homemade fake torch and walk through the center of the football field. They have track and field events such as relay races, wheelchair races, a soccer dribble, a softball throw and more. The kids involved as well as the students and adults that help always have lots of fun, even in the heat. Friday was about 96°F so everyone was advised to wear hats, sunglasses, and lots of sunscreen! At the end of the events, the kids have lunch and the day ends with a dance party.
