GVHS Student Council Given National Recognition!

The Garnet Valley High School  Student Council has just received the NASC National Council of Excellence Award by the National Association of Student Council. The council is being rewarded for “… its exemplary record of leadership, service, and activities that serve to improve the school and community.”

2016-2017 Garnet Valley High School Student Council President Mary Kate Kavanagh states, “I was so proud of my council when we received the award. We have worked extremely hard this year through the many obstacles thrown at us and I feel that everyone in this council deserves the recognition.”

To meet the requirements for the NASC National Council of Excellence Award, a student council must prove that it meets a variety of criteria. In addition to basic requirements such as a written constitution, regular meetings, a democratic election process, and membership in NASC, councils demonstrate things such as leadership training for council members, teacher/staff appreciation activities, student recognition programs, school and community service projects, spirit activities, goal setting, financial planning and active participation in state and national student council associations.
