Garnet Valley’s Annual Health Fair

Posters, pamphlets, and brochures lined tables set atop of the shiny gym floor. Stations separated the lively space into different stations, all accompanied by smiling faces. Teenagers are scattered about the gym, hands overflowing with stress balls, mini first aid kits, pamphlets, and mints. People sway back and forth, stumbling, tumbling over as they try to walk in a straight line while wearing a pair of “drunk goggles”. There are so many activities packed into just one place. This even includes massage chairs, as hands knead into sore and tense muscles. This wonderful event is Garnet Valley’s Annual Health Fair.

This is an event set up where many different organizations, all pertaining to health, come and set up a station to talk and inform high school students about their life decisions or choices. These representatives answer questions, provide additional information about their organization, and some even offered games. They all proved to be very insightful and passionate about their work. These organizations at the fair included Main Line Health Center, Delaware County Suicide Prevention and Awareness, The Renfrew Center, A Door of Hope,  KidsPeace, and many others. One of the organizations even offered free massages. Other activities included wearing a pair of “drunk goggles” and attempting to walk in a straight line. This showed the effects of alcohol on the brain and the impairment it causes. The main goal of this health fair is to provide students with information in making their own healthy and educated decisions. After all, your health is in your own hands. Don’t worry if you missed it this time, there is always one next year.
