First homecoming. It was the first true high school landmark, and it was one of the biggest events each school year. The first one, in my opinion, is the most exciting.
My experience at homecoming was different than any other dance or party I have been to. Nearly everyone goes, where as at middle school dances only three quarters of students attend. An obvious difference between homecoming and middle school formals is that homecoming was three hours, and the middle school formals were two. Now, don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed dressing up and going to middle school formals; however, after going to homecoming, those formals dull in comparison. Homecoming is so fun.
The DJ is much better, since it’s, well, and is an actual DJ. There were candy and snacks, which is pretty much the same as the formals. But, one thing I definitely noticed and loved about homecoming was the energy. The entire time, everyone was upbeat and enthusiastic, until the very end. The gym was packed the entire time with dancing students who were pumping their fists and jumping around to the beat. Neon lights illuminated the gym, and just added to the effect of the music. Everyone seemed happy, and they were glad to be there. In my opinion, it brought the school together as a whole.
Homecoming, for me, was a huge blur of dancing and jumping and running back and forth across the school. The whole night was just one giant party, and it was amazingly fun. I can’t wait until next year’s homecoming, and for the same blur of screaming and laughing that I experienced this year. I can tell that this, and hopefully the many homecomings in the future, will be memories that I will remember forever.
