Queen of Shadows is the 4th book in an epic 6 book Young Adult fantasy series by Sarah J Maas. It just recently came out on September 1st, bringing Sarah J Maas to the Costco in King of Prussia on September 19th. The series is about a girl named Celaena Sardothien, an assassin, who is taken out of prison to compete to become the king’s personal assassin. Each book keeps getting better, and this is no exception. Queen of Shadows has everything that makes a good book: round and dynamic characters, world building, intriguing antagonist, engaging plot, mind-blowing plot twists, and breathtaking writing. The story had me sitting in my seat passionately chanting yesss and nooo.
For those of you who have read the previous three books, let’s discuss! The book starts off with Dorian trapped with the demon prince inside of him. His chapters are written amazingly, but still are some of the hardest chapters to read. With Aelin, spying on Arobynn and discovering something she may not want to, makes the opening of the novel intense. Lots of new characters are introduced along with old characters that make appearances. The same cast as the previous books are still involved, and everyone gets character development. If you haven’t started this series, what are you waiting for? Even if you don’t normally read fantasy, I would still give this book a try. It has action, magic, romance, revenge, humor and a little something for everyone.
