The Jaguars look to continue their undefeated conference play this week as they battle against the Springfield High School Cougars (1-1). The game is set for 7:00pm this Friday and the weather looks to be quite threatening with a good chance of rain and the high reaching 55ºF. The jags will most likely rely on senior running back Derrick West for most of the touches in the game rather than throw the ball due to the inclement weather. West already is responsible for 9 touchdowns this season and 344 yards rushing in just three games he has already played in. Following in his footsteps is the multitalented Jacob Buttermore. Buttermore is a running back, a wide receiver, and a kicker. He has had five touchdowns on the year and has chalked up 139 yards with only 7 receptions. Another key player to look out for on the jaguars offense is senior quarterback Matt Hamby who has already thrown 295 yards this year gaining on average 7.8 yards per attempt. The offense will be stacked up against a tough cougar defense with senior middle linebacker Ricky Sterling (5’9” 185 lbs.) who averages 12.0 tackles per game. Another cougar defensive player to be on the lookout for is senior Dan Archibong (6’6” 250 lbs.) who plays defensive end for the cougars and is also a threat as a tight end on the offensive side of the ball. The cougars also go on the attack with junior quarterback Brandon DiChiacchio (6’0” 165 lbs.) as he tries to keep up his 53.2% completion record. Also for the cougars is sophomore running back Kyle Long who has shown his true potential in his first few games already putting up 246 yards this year. The Jags will hope to respond with their well disciplined “blackshirts” defense. Leading the charge will be junior linebacker Shane Donegan who has already 17 tackles on the season. In the backfield senior Zach Connor leads the team in tackles with 21 already this season. According to the statistics, Garnet Valley should get the win 35 to 21. The game is a pink-out in honor of the start of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
